3 Hidden Easter Eggs in You Get What You Give
In my new book, You Get What You Give, there’s a scene where Casey first meets his mentor, Noah.
It’s right after his first disaster client who snubs him out of his money. He’s already exhausted with his studio business and is desperately looking for help.
They meet at Bridgewater Brewing Company, which is a nod to Ray Dalio. I’m a big fan of his book Principles and since he’s the “Steve Jobs/Elon Musk of investing” I thought it would be a fun Easter egg to put into the book.
Although the name is based on his investment firm, Bridgewater Associates, the fictional brewing company is very much based on a real place called TEN55 Brewing Company in downtown Tucson.
It’s one of my favorite breweries in town so I thought it would be an appropriate place for Casey’s luck to turn in the story.
However, there’s a mixup with Casey’s food order during this scene, and we don’t learn until later that the mixup is a deliberate tactic that Noah uses to gauge his personality and integrity.
I added this part to the book after reading about a similar tactic that Charles Schwab used when he was auditioning new hires for his company. He would create a situation in which they were forced to react about something minor, and then he gauged their personality…
