Who cares?

It’s a good question to consider for your creative career.

It has two sides, containing equally important questions that can guide your journey and help you focus on what’s next.

If you find yourself at a crossroads, stuck in decision limbo between “doing it for love” or “doing it for money,” here are two phrases that have helped me put things into perspective.

“Stop Caring What They Think”

You won’t get anywhere worrying about what other people think.

Although success may need some level of market acceptance, creating by committee will lead to watered-down work that excites nobody.

Letting average people judge what constitutes creative excellence will only lead to average art.

You’ll never make yourself happy if your opinion matters the least. Be an outlier. Do things your way and stop caring what they think.

If you commit to creative excellence and consistently create quality art, people will notice.

“Stop Thinking That They Care”

The flip side of the coin is similar and even more liberating.
